Conte Backed To Take On Manchester United Role By Former Assistant

Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte would be an ideal candidate for the manager’s job at Manchester United, that’s according to his former assistant.

Angelo Alessio worked with Conte at Siena, Juventus and the Blues, and when asked if either United or Real Madrid would be a good option for the Italian coach, he said:

“He would be good for both teams. The important thing for Antonio is to find a club that gives him a long-term project.”

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has been backed as the favourite to take over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford on a permanent basis.

However, the interim boss is making a case to be appointed for the long-term after guiding United to five straight wins. The Norwegian would make an even stronger case for himself if he manages to beat Pochettino’s Spurs this weekend.

United travel to Wembley on Sunday evening with the London club looking to keep their title challenge on track. They are currently six points behind league leaders Liverpool and ten points ahead of United.
