Congolese Star (With Just One Year Remaining On His Contract) Reveals He’s Flattered By United Interest

Rennes left-back Faotout Maouassa says he is very happy that clubs such as Manchester United are interested in signing him following his performances this season.

The Red Devils were mentioned in the French press as a possible destination for the Congolese defender last month and asked about those rumours, the player said he was flattered:

“It’s nice, I won’t lie, it’s really nice to see clubs like that be interested in you. It’s just a pleasure, really, but like I said, I’m really happy at Rennes, I feel good and I’m staying grounded.”

Maouassa’s current deal at Rennes expires at the end of next season so he could be available for a relatively low price when the transfer window opens.

However, when asked whether he would consider leaving the Ligue One side, the 21-year-old said he was content to stay and play in the Champions League:

“With the season we did, I think we’re all a bit sought after, but personally, I’m happy at Rennes, we’ve got the Champions League, there’s no real reason for me to go seeing as I’m really happy here.”

United could do with strengthening at left-back. Luke Shaw has been quite impressive when fit but his injury issues mean manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had to rely on youngster Brandon Williams a bit too often.

Bringing in another young fullback as competition could well be something the club consider this summer. Whether they will make a formal approach for Maouassa, though, we shall have to wait and see.
