Cody Gakpo Lays Out Future Transfer Plans As United Are Named Among 4 PL Clubs Pursuing 30M Deal

Manchester United will join Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City in the race to sign PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo, according to the Evening Standard.

The newspaper claims that the Dutch international could be sold for as little as £30m, and the player himself has even spoken out about his plans for the summer transfer window.

Gakpo has said he is open to leaving PSV, but he wants to move to a team where he would be playing regularly ahead of the World Cup later this year:

“Anything can happen this summer. I will now calmly compare all the options and see what is best for me. Staying another year is also an option. It would be a shame if I went somewhere where I wouldn’t get played at all and I could miss the World Cup. I’ll keep that in mind.”

It is up for debate whether United need a player like Gakpo. The 23-year-old favours playing on the left wing, which is an area that the Red Devils are already well catered for with the likes of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford.

Unless new manager Erik ten Hag is considering playing Sancho from the right-hand side, there doesn’t appear to be a lot of room for a player like Gakpo in United’s squad.
