Braga will only offload centre-back David Carmo for €40m (£34m) this summer, according to reports in the Portuguese media.
Manchester United have been keeping tabs on the 6ft 5 defender in recent months and, while Braga are prepared to sell up, they are keen to get the highest price possible for the player.
Carmo has been compared to Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk by some sections of the press, although it must be said that the 22-year-old is still pretty inexperienced and he has spent the majority of this season on the sidelines.
The Portuguese youth international broke his ankle in February last year and it took him almost a full twelve months to get back to full fitness. He has, though, finished the season strongly for Braga, with his side having only lost one league match since he made his comeback from injury.
After Saturday’s woeful defensive display against Brighton, signing a new centre-half will surely have been moved up the list of priorities. We shall have to wait and see if Carmo is United’s main target.
