Manchester United are keeping tabs on Villarreal defender Pau Torres, according to The Times journalist Paul Hirst. Speaking to Norwegian channel TV2, he explained that both the Red Devils and Manchester City had been watching the player closely.
The 23-year-old, who has also been linked with Arsenal, reportedly has a €50m (£45m) release clause. Fans on Twitter had a mixed reaction to the story:
Clearly better than lindelof

If a CB isn’t better than Maguire or Lindelof then no thanks.

It’s unlikely that a centre-back is a priority for United this summer considering they already have the likes of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe.
The focus is believed to be on signing a right-winger and another attacking midfielder, with Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish said to be their main targets.
Even so, Torres could be seen as an upgrade on players like Lindelof and Bailly who have not always been convincing when handed their chances in the first team. Whether the Red Devils would consider triggering the Villarreal star’s buyout clause, though, is another matter entirely.
