The gamesmanship between Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund over the transfer of Jadon Sancho reached new heights yesterday when the Bundesliga club issued a statement to confirm there had been no talks with the Red Devils about signing the England international.

It is thought that both teams have dug themselves in over the winger’s price tag, with Dortmund insisting their €120m (£108m) valuation must be met while United are refusing to match it.

The situation could change quickly, of course, but at the time of writing it is looking less likely that Sancho will be moving to Old Trafford this summer.
