Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham are keeping tabs on Southampton striker Danny Ings’ contract situation, according to reports in the UK.
The former Liverpool player has rejected a new four-year deal and, as things stand, the player will be available on a free transfer next summer.
Supporters on Twitter had a mixed response to United’s reported interest in Ings. Some believe he could be a good option, as he is a proven goalscorer and won’t cost a great deal, while others don’t think he is needed:
Ings is a very good player can be influential like Michael Owen.

If it's available for free, why not?

Just don't get this one. Nothing to do with him playing for Liverpool I just feel he's not at the level we need to be at if we are gonna challenge next season.

I think he’d be good business only if we sell Martial, because I can’t see Cavani playing week in week out. He’s entering the final year of his contract at 28 so shouldn’t be more then £20m and he knows how to score goals.

The question is with the addition of Sancho, do we have enough competition for places to force consistent performances from Rashford, Martial and Greenwood? If so, we don’t really need Ings. We have Cavani, James and Diallo too

If Edinson Cavani does leave Old Trafford at the end of next season then Ings could be seen as a potential replacement, in addition to signing another more high-profile forward.
Southampton are willing to allow Ings to run down his contract so it is a distinct possibility that the England international will be available for free next summer. For someone with his goalscoring record, he could be a bargain.
