Ex-Manchester United star Gary Neville believes Luke Shaw needs to be singled out for praise following his performances since the World Cup.

A lot of the attention has been on Marcus Rashford, and rightly so, but Neville claims Shaw has been equally excellent at left-back:

“Marcus Rashford’s form since the World Cup has been great. But I also want to put Luke Shaw in that category, he’s come back from the World Cup in brilliant form too.”

“He’s absolutely outstanding, but he’s not scoring goals and as a fullback, you just don’t get the credit, I’m sorry, you don’t! But I have to keep mentioning full-backs and Shaw because he’s been brilliant.”

Shaw has had an up-and-down career at Old Trafford, to say the least. There were times when he looked well below the standard required, and he has also suffered serious injury setbacks.

However, there have been seasons where he has been phenomenal. The arrival of Tyrell Malacia last summer as competition for his place did seem to spark a reaction, but he has been more consistent since Christmas.

The combination of Shaw and Rashford down the left flank has been one of United’s main strengths in recent months and manager Erik ten Hag will be hoping that both players can maintain their form until the end of the season.
