BREAKING: United Star Signs New Deal

Manchester United defender Phil Jones has signed a new deal at the club. The 23-year-old has been tied down to the club until at least 2019.

The new contract has surely ended the uncertainty over his future at Old Trafford. Jones is understood to have agreed similar terms to his United and England teammate Chris Smalling worth in the region of £80,000 a week.

Jones joined United in 2011 from Blackburn for a fee of around £16million. His contract was set to expire in just a years time, and with Louis van Gaal looking at recruiting a new centre back this summer it could have meant Jones’ time was up.

As the Offical Manchester United Site reported, manager Louis van Gaal had this to say on Jones after the new deal was agreed:

“We are delighted that Phil has signed a new contract. He is a talented footballer with great versatility and can play in a number of positions.”

“Phil is a relatively young defender who is developing all the time. He missed some of last season due to injury; however, I was impressed by his professionalism and attitude during those periods.”

Phil Jones said:

“I am delighted to have signed a new deal. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here so far and am looking forward to continuing my development as a player.”

“This a great club to be part of and I cannot wait to start the new campaign. I would like to thank the manager, coaching staff and fans for their continued support.”

Brilliant news! Now lets hope there’s more of that to come in the shape of David De Gea.
