Brazilian midfielder Fred ‘Manchester bound’ says team-mate

Shakhtar Donetsk captain Darijo Srna revealed on via Instagram that team-mate Fred will be playing his football in Manchester next season.

Fred, who joined Shakhtar in 2013, has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months, with both Manchester clubs keen to take the Brazilian on.

The 25-year-old helped his side win the Ukrainian Cup on Wednesday night, and later uploaded a number posts to his Instagram of he and his team-mates celebrating their victory – one of which depicted Srna revealing a little too much about his team-mate’s future.

“Let’s go, Brazil…Champions, champions!” Srna said on Fred’s Instagram Live, “Fred now is going to Manchester. He doesn’t know if it’s City or United. Let’s know!”

United are favourites to land the Brazil international after City reportedly pulled out of the race for his signature last month.

Jose Mourinho is keen to add fresh legs to his midfield with Michael Carrick set to retire at the end of the season and Marouane Fellaini too set to leave Old Trafford.

Shakhtar chief executive Sergei Palkin conceded earlier this year that Fred’s career with the Ukrainian’s his over, and that he will no doubt move to Manchester this summer.

“Fred will leave in June. If not to Manchester City, then to Manchester United,” Palkin told Corriere dello Sport, “He is ready for the best championships.

“In addition to being very good, Fred is very professional.”
