Bayern Munich star drops big hint over future amidst United interest

Manchester United target Jerome Boateng has hinted he could leave current club Bayern Munich this summer.

The Germany international, who formerly plied his trade with rivals Manchester City, has been with Bayern since 2011 and has established himself as one of the world’s best centre-backs.

During his time at the Allianz Arena, the 29-year-old has won six Bundesliga titles, the UEFA Champions League, as well as three German Cups. He was also named as Footballer of the Year in Germany during the 2015/16 season as Bayern won the domestic treble.

However after a trophy-clad spell with Die Roten, Boateng has conceded he may now be ready for a new challenge.

“I’ve experienced everything at Bayern, and I am slowly coming to a point where I must answer myself certain questions,” Boateng told Socrates Magazine.

“What are the goals I have not reached yet? Do I, time and time again, want to prove myself at the same club with the same pre-conditions? Those are not necessarily classic questions regarding the career, but vital questions and, in the end, questions that drive people.”

The 29-year-old’s comments will come as a boost to Manchester United, who have been eyeing a potential move for the defender this summer.

Jose Mourinho is keen to bolster his defence ahead of next season, and a player of Boateng’s experience and quality would be a welcomed addition at Old Trafford.

Boateng’s contract with Bayern expires in 2021, and any move for the former Man City star is expected to cost United in the region of €20 million.
