Barcelona President Speaks Out On Potential Departures Of Two United Transfer Targets

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has dismissed claims that Philippe Coutinho and Jordi Alba will leave the Camp Nou.

Both players have been linked with moves to Manchester United, with former Liverpool star Coutinho, in particular, having been talked about as a potential summer signing.

However, Bartomeu was adamant that the Brazilian international is a valued first team player and won’t be sold, despite struggling for form this campaign:

“We expect a lot from Coutinho, we don’t want to sell him, he’s one of the good players we want to have.”

Alba’s situation is slightly different. The Spaniard has been locked in a contract dispute with the club for a while, with United having been touted as a possible destination, but Bartomeu says he expects negotiations over a new deal to come to a successful conclusion:

“There is no risk of Jordi Alba leaving, when two love each other so much, in the end, they understand each other.”

It is pretty certain that United scouts would be keeping tabs on the Barca pair if they do come available at the end of the season, but as things stand, neither looks likely to be leaving Spain any time soon.
