Barcelona chief breaks silence on Paul Pogba rumours

Barcelona manger Ernesto Valverde has refused to rule out a shock last minute move for Paul Pogba.

The United star, who won the World Cup with France during the summer, has been heavily touted to leave Old Trafford this summer after a difficult two years with the club.

Pogba was dropped by manager Jose Mourinho at the end of last season, and the two have endured a tempestuous relationship since, with the Portuguese boss since implying Pogba fails to produce the form with United as he does for France due to a lack of effort.

Real Madrid and his former club Juventus have both linked with a move for the talented 25-year-old, however Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has refused to eliminate the possibility the Catalans could also try to land the Frenchman before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

When asked about rumours linking Barca with Pogba, the Spaniard said: “Paul Pogba is obviously a great player, but we respect those who are at other clubs.

“I do not really have any comments to make on the rumours that are circulating around – they are just rumours.

“There are a lot of names that always get circulated around in the rumour mill – all of them are good players and we respect them themselves but we also respect the clubs they are currently at.”
