As United Face Liverpool Mourinho Looks To Improve His Record Against Klopp

Jose Mourinho has faced Jurgen Klopp on five occasions as a manager and unfortunately does not have a great record vs his German counterpart. Although Monday night’s game at Anfield will see them face each other for the first time in their current positions as United and Liverpool managers, the two have a rivalry going back to when Jose was the boss of Real Madrid and Klopp was managing Borussia Dortmund.  Jose currently has a win, a draw and three losses in his games managed against his German rival which includes two Champions League losses so he will be looking to lead United to an important win on Monday night and improve his record vs Liverpool – in so doing getting the club back to winning ways after a frustrating tie with Stoke City in their last game.

The United manager will likely be aware of his record against Klopp but won’t put too much emphasis on it. The Liverpool boss recently celebrated a year in charge on Merseyside after taking over from the sacked Brendan Rogers and he certainly seems to have his side playing well this year. Liverpool sit in 4th in the Premier league only behind Arsenal in 3rd on goal difference and Klopp has already led Liverpool to early season wins over Arsenal and Chelsea. He will be looking to carry on from last season’s victory over United in the two legged Europa league triumph. Klopp also led Liverpool to his first victory at the club by beating Mourinho’s Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge last October further putting the pressure on the then Chelsea manager.

United did manage to narrowly beat Liverpool in the league in both matches last year under Louis van Gaal but as mentioned they did lose on aggregate later in the season against Klopp in the Europa League last 8. So as the clubs welcome back their players after the international break Jose will be looking to lead United to an important victory which would see them move into a tie with Liverpool on 16 points and possibly a place in the top 4. So for an early season game there is a lot to play for.
