“As I Understand It…” Journalist Claims United Will Target 85M Rated Duo If De Jong Deal Collapses

Manchester United may pursue Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves and Leicester’s Youri Tielemans if a deal for Frenkie de Jong falls through, according to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook.

Reports today suggest that a move for de Jong has stalled, with the Dutch international still unwilling to leave Barca, and Crook suggests that the Red Devils could pull out and target potential alternatives:

“I know Manchester United have a backup list. Youri Tielemans is on that list, as I understand it, as is Ruben Neves from Wolves. I would call Barcelona’s bluff now and say ‘either you sell him to us, or we will pay the same money and sign Ruben Neves’. He’s a player who is proven in the Premier League.”

TalkSPORT claims that Neves could be sold for £50m by Wolves, which is substantially below what United are looking to pay for de Jong. Tielemans, meanwhile, is expected to be even cheaper due to his contract situation.

The Belgian international has less than a year to go on his current deal and Leicester may well offload him for between £30m and £35m before the transfer window closes.

Both Neves and Tielemans have also been linked with Arsenal but neither player is believed to be a priority target for the Gunners so there is a strong possibility that United could swoop in and agree a deal for either player.
