Arsenal Enter Battle For 80M Rated Target Man Who Ferdinand Backed To Be A “Fantastic Signing” For United

Arsenal are the latest team to target Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, according to reports. The England international, who has been mentioned as a potential target for Manchester United, could be the subject of a fierce transfer battle this summer.

Reports in recent days have also claimed that ex-Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti wants to bring the 24-year-old to Real Madrid, after a season which saw the forward bag 21 goals in all competitions.

United legend Rio Ferdinand recommended Calvert-Lewin as a potential alternative to Harry Kane and Erling Haaland back in April, stating he could be a great addition to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad:

“I think he’d be a fantastic signing for Manchester United. It’s one out of left field a little bit but I think he’d have a big impact. He’d get on the end of the things created by Fernandes, Pogba, Rashford, Greenwood etc. It’s whether Ole sees that as something that is feasible or am I not going to get the likes of Haaland or Kane? if either of those come up they’ll be first choice as long as the money is not crazy and it’s doable.”

Whether the Red Devils are prioritising a forward this summer, it is debatable. After tying down Edinson Cavani for another year, the focus has been on signing Jadon Sancho and a centre-back so investing heavily in a new number nine looks unlikely.

While Calvert-Lewin is likely to be cheaper than Kane and Haaland, reports still suggest that Everton may demand anything between £50m and £80m for the striker.
