Antonio Valencia apologises for Instagram mishap

Antonio Valencia has apologised for liking an Instagram post claiming Jose Mourinho should be sacked.

The 33-year-old, who is reported to have fallen out with Mourinho in recent weeks, was in the team for Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with Valencia in the Champions League.

And following the clash, the Ecuador International liked a picture of himself on Instagram with the caption: “It’s time for Mourinho to go.”

The veteran defender later wrote he liked the post “without reading the text”.

“These are not my views and I apologise for this,” the full-back said on Twitter.

“I am fully supportive of the manager and my team-mates. We are all giving our everything to improve the results.”

The draw was yet another poor result in a dismal run of form for Jose Mourinho’s side, who have now failed to win in four in all competitions.

United drew with Wolves earlier last month, before losing back-to-back games to Derby County and West Ham United.

Rumours have also surfaced that Mourinho has lost the dressing room at Old Trafford, a theory supported by his ongoing public dispute with Paul Pogba.

But midfielder Maruoane Fellaini insists the whole of the team, including Pogba, remain very much behind the Portuguese boss.

“Everyone is going in the same direction to try to improve and to do better,” he added.
