Anthony Martial set to sign new five-year contract at Old Trafford

Anthony Martial is set to sign new five-year contract at Manchester United despite Jose Mourinho not wanting him at the club.

The Times report United have offered the Frenchman a new five-year deal that will keep him at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future, and are confident he will put pen to paper despite his recent troubles.

Jose Mourinho tried to off-load Martial this summer after telling friends he was unhappy with the 22-year-old’s attitude, however the sale was vetoed by club chief Ed Woodward, who is a big admirer of the France international.

Martial was dropped from the squad for United’s defeat at Tottenham on Monday and has featured for just 60 minutes this term, with Mourinho preferring all of Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata in the two positions behind Romelu Lukaku.

However after a dismal start to the new campaign and Mourinho’s future at Old Trafford subsequently under threat, Martial believes a new long-term contract at United could see him outlast the Portuguese boss.

Atletico Madrid and Juventus were just two of a number of club’s interested in landing the Frenchman this summer, however, but Martial has accepted he will not be allowed to leave the club and instead will play the long-game in order to rejuvenate his career at Old Trafford.

Martial’s new deal is believed to be worth around £130,000-per-week and will keep him at the club until 2023.
