Alan Shearer slams Phil Jones after FA Cup final nightmare

Alan Shearer has slammed Manchester United defender Phil Jones after giving away the penalty that eventually saw Chelsea lift the FA Cup yesterday afternoon.

Jones brought down Eden Hazard in the area just 22 minutes into the game, after the Belgian ran through on goal.

Jones clumsily lunged at Hazard as the Chelsea forward bared down on goal, failing to win the ball and instead wiping the Belgian off his feet.

The United star was booked, and Hazard converted the spot-kick – the goal proving to be the winner in a narrow 1-0 victory for Antonio Conte’s men.

And following the defeat for United, Shearer – who is the Premier League’s all time top scorer with 260 goals – says the Englishman should be hanging his head on shame after costing his side the FA Cup.

“His body shape is all wrong and he doesn’t know where Hazard is, he should go and meet the ball,” he said.

“Phil Jones, a lot of the time… Everything is last ditch with him instead of reading the game better.

“It is a definite penalty – the referee gets it spot on. He gives a penalty and also a yellow card.

He concluded: “It wasn’t a good attempt to get the ball.”

Jones wil travel to Russia this summer as part of Gareth Southgate’s 23-man England squad for the World Cup.
