Alan Shearer Slams “Shambolic” Manchester United After 3-0 Defeat To Spurs At Old Trafford

Former Premier League striker Alan Shearer criticised Manchester United after their 3-0 defeat on Sunday evening against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Red Devils lost 3-0 in what was a dismal performance from Erik Ten Hag’s side who now sit 12th in the Premier League table after three winless matches.

Manager Erik Ten Hag has come under fire with speculation over his future as potential replacements for the Dutchman are touted with taking over the job at Old Trafford.

Alan Shearer, who described United as “Shambolic” on The Rest Is Football Podcast, said: “I thought Man United were shambolic, they were awful, they were lucky to get away with three [goals].

Can anyone tell me what are Man United, what is their system, what is their plan? Do they sit, do they attack, do they press? I haven’t got a clue what they are, they are a mess.”

Shearer says Manchester United players have to take responsibility

The main stem of criticism has been targeted towards Erik Ten Hag every time that Manchester United face a bad result, however, Shearer believes that the players need to take responsibility.

He said: “They’re 12th in the league, which means they are awful. The players have to take responsibility, they can’t hide behind the manager who takes the flack every week when a result goes against them.

“There are players out there who you have to think, is that the best you can give?”

The Red Devils’ poor scoring record

The biggest weakness on paper for United is their ability to simply score goals. After six games in the Premier League season, United have five goals to their name.

That is the joint-second-worst record in the division, for a team that should be challenging for a Champions League spot, something needs to change.

Only Southampton have scored fewer goals than Manchester United with Bournemouth, Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace tied with Ten Hag’s team on five goals.
