Adebayor Reveals How He Persuaded 45M Midfielder Not To Sign For United

Emmanuel Adebayor said he had a conversation with Thomas Partey about his potential transfer to England before he made the £45m switch to Arsenal last month.

At the time, the Ghanaian international was also mulling over interest from the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea but Adebayor said he persuaded the midfielder into joining the Gunners instead:

“About six months to a year ago, he was telling me about contacts he had had from England, He mentioned Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea. And I told him, ‘Listen, if I have a chance to play in England, a chance to play for Arsenal, the place you have to go to is Arsenal’.”

Partey was very impressive when Arsenal won 1-0 at Old Trafford earlier this month and he would, undoubtedly, have been an upgrade on the likes of Fred and Scott McTominay in United’s squad.

It was a big surprise when the Ghanaian opted to move to Arsenal, considering they do not have Champions League football. He may live to regret the decision in the long run, with the London club’s heavy 3-0 home defeat against Aston Villa in their last game leaving them 11th in the table, having lost four of their opening eight games this season.
