“A Transfer Is Getting Closer And Closer…” Eredivisie Star Makes Frank Admission Amid United Rumours

Ajax defender Jurrien Timber says he expects to leave the Eredivisie champions at the end of the season.

Manchester United reportedly sent scouts to watch the Dutch international last week, while the likes of Liverpool have also been mentioned as potential suitors. Asked about the chances of moving clubs this summer, Timber replied:

“A transfer is getting closer and closer, so to speak. There is a lot of concrete interest and I have made agreements with Ajax. Last year Ajax asked me to stay at least one more season and to extend my contract. As a club boy, I did that with love and after the season we will look at the situation again.”

It is believed that United had representatives in the stands to see Ajax’s 3-0 defeat against PSV Eindhoven last Sunday, which suggests that manager Erik ten Hag is keen to revive his interest in the 21-year-old.

The Red Devils were heavily linked with the player twelve months ago but, as Timber points out, he decided to remain in the Netherlands for one more year. His latest remarks suggest that things will be different when the transfer window reopens.

Timber’s ability to play both as a centre-back and right-back would make him a perfect addition for United, with ten Hag keen on strengthening both of those positions.
