Zlatan return will help United chase City, says Lukaku

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku says the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic from injury will help his team’s bid to chase rivals City to the title.

United sit 8 points behind league leaders City, with many already predicting a whitewash from the Sky Blues that will be almost unstoppable.

Lukaku has started in just about every game for United so far this season, and despite a brilliant start he has been very off form since – not scoring in his last 7 appearances.

As the injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic nears his return to action, there could be a big decision for Jose Mourinho to make over who starts between the two.

However, even with the potential return of Ibrahimovic keeping Lukaku out of the team, the Belgian has backed the Swede’s return as something that can help his team push up the table.

“It motivates me really, because he’s another good player to add to the squad,” Lukaku said. “When you face a team like us it’s difficult for opponents.

“Him (Ibrahimovic) coming back will help us chase Manchester City.”

Lukaku also discussed his recent form for the club, saying that there is still a long way to go before he can be judged.

“I think when I signed everybody was asking questions and I think starting so well surprised a few people,” Lukaku said.

“We are still in the early stages of the season and nothing is over yet. We can do much better than we are doing now.”
