Man United continue to eye further signings but they’re not necessary

Manchester United have made waves this summer with the additions of Victor Lindelof, Nemanja Matic and Romelu Lukaku but Jose Mourinho’s side continue to be linked with an array of top-class additions.

Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic and Tottenham Hotspur full-back Danny Rose are the names on the lips of the tabloids recently and both would command a stunning fee in the transfer market, although that’s unlikely to be an issue for the mega-rich Red Devils.

Questions have to be asked of whether Jose Mourinho’s side actually need these recruits though and the answer is a resounding no, as the Red Devils already boast more than capable players within their ranks- many of whom are stars for the future.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are both likely to suffer if Perisic is signed to play on the left-wing, as it would severely block their opportunities in the first-team, and the fact of the matter is both players are more than capable of being regular starters.

Rashford already showed his worth in the European Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid, causing havoc off the bench, whilst Martial is still regarded to be one of the brightest young players in the Premier League- and he needs support if he’s to bounce-back from a disappointing season last term.

The same can be said at left-back where 22-year-old Luke Shaw needs to be shown some faith, rather than being thrown under the bus like he was last season when Mourinho criticised his lack of fitness- overlooking the hard work he had to put in to return from a devastating leg-break.

Shaw and Rose may well be fighting for England’s starting spot on the left ahead of next summer’s World Cup, which shows just how good the former Southampton ace is, and his development would be blocked by the potential arrival of Rose.

Manchester United have done well to assemble a talented squad that’s close-knit, determined and capable of going all the way in numerous competitions but signing players for the sake of it could prove to be disastrous, especially with Mourinho’s track record of losing the dressing room.

If the Portuguese boss is to overcome the demons of his previous stints with Chelsea and Real Madrid, then he needs to change his attitude towards young players and put some faith into the talents he has within his squad, rather than trying to find an answer on the transfer market.
