5 United Youngsters Who Are Next In Line To Make First Team Breakthrough

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been very proactive in helping young players make their breakthrough into the first team since he was appointed 15 months ago.

As well as Scott McTominay firmly establishing himself as a first-team regular, the likes of Brandon Williams and Mason Greenwood have also featured prominently.

That policy is likely to continue with the next crop of youngsters coming through the academy of the club.

Press the “next page” as we look at five starlets who could be the next in line to make an impact at senior level:

Largie Ramazani

The Belgian winger was handed his first-team debut by Solskjaer in the 2-1 defeat to FC Astana back in November, and while he hasn’t featured since then, he has continued to impress for the Under 23s.

Ramazani may have only been promoted from the Under 18s at the beginning of the campaign, but he has developed his game quickly, scoring nine goals in 13 Premier League 2 games.

Ethan Laird

The 18-year-old is an attacking right-back and featured in two Europa League group games before Christmas. He is now an England Under 19 international and is a regular for United’s Under 23s.

Laird may, though, need a loan spell away from Old Trafford to continue his development with both Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot ahead of him in the pecking order.

James Garner

Some supporters see him as the “next Michael Carrick” but the holding midfielder’s goalscoring record at youth level may suggest that he could well play further forward.

Garner scored eight goals in 10 Premier League 2 games, and he has been afforded four senior starts by Solskjaer in cup competitions this season already.

Angel Gomes

There is some uncertainty over the attacking midfielder’s future, with his current deal expiring in the summer, but there is no doubt about his potential.

The 19-year-old has already played 10 games for the senior side, and United will be keen to tie him down to a long term contract.

Dylan Levitt

The Welsh Under 21 international also made his senior debut in the loss to Astana, but he hasn’t been seen since then.

Levitt is a central midfielder, but the feeling is his development is behind Garner’s, and it remains to be seen if he can make the jump required in order to make it in the first team.
