5 Things To Know About Boubacar Kamara As United Target Midfielder Who Is “Liked A Lot” By Tuchel

Manchester United are very interested in Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara, with respected journalists such as David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano both claiming that the Red Devils are keen on the player.

There has been some talk that United will make a move for the France Under 21 international in January, with Marseille looking to avoid letting him leave when his contract expires next summer.

At this stage, no formal bid for Kamara has been made but that could change quickly. So what do we know about the 22-year-old?

Press the next page as we list five things you need to know about the midfielder.

1) Kamara Is Marseille Through And Through

The midfielder was a Marseille fan as a child, after visiting the Stade Velodrome with his Mum. He then went through the club’s academy, which he joined all the way back in 2005.

Kamara was just five at the time, but he made it all the way through the team’s youth ranks, captaining the Under 19s, before making his mark in the first-team squad.

2) The Midfielder Made His Senior Debut Just After He Turned 17

Kamara got his first taste of senior football when he was handed his debut in a French League Cup match versus Sochaux in December 2016. His 17th birthday was just a few weeks before.

Now 22 years of age, he has been a regular starter for Marseille over the past four seasons, making over 100 appearances in all competitions.

3) Kamara Is Just As Capable Playing As A Centre-Back

While the Frenchman has come to prominence as a holding midfield player over the past eighteen months, nearly half of his senior appearances have come as a centre-half.

That adaptability would undoubtedly make Kamara a good signing for United, who could deploy the player in a number of different roles.

4) United Are Not The Only Admirers Of The Midfielder

While Arsenal and Manchester City have been mentioned as potential suitors in recent months, Chelsea were the team that was most heavily linked with Kamara, up until recently. A french journalist Romain Canuti claimed back in March that Blues boss Thomas Tuchel was a big admirer of the player:

“It’s a profile that Thomas Tuchel likes a lot. He’s kept his name in the corner of his brain. He could come back. There’s been discussions about it.”

5) Marseille Wanted To Make Kamara The Highest Earner At The Club

With the 22-year-old having captained the Ligue One side on a number of occasions this season, Marseille are determined to tie him down to a new deal; so much so that they were prepared to make him the best-paid player at the club.

So far, Kamara has turned down the opportunity to sign an extension and he will be able to speak to foreign clubs about a pre-contract agreement within days.
