30M Rated Bundesliga Star Hints At New “Sports Project” As United And Chelsea Circle

Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard has once again raised the prospect of leaving the Bundesliga club for a new challenge.

The French international was linked with a £30m move away from the Allianz Arena in the summer, with both Manchester United and Chelsea said to be interested. The fullback ended up staying in Germany but he has now dropped further hints that a transfer next year is likely:

“I have immense respect for Bayern. I learned there the requirement of a very high level, and it is an honour to wear this shirt. Afterwards, I have been in Germany for seven years. I have won everything with the club. I’m not against discovering a new project. Maybe now is the time. Why not discover a new country, a new culture? But the sports project must be interesting.”

Whether Pavard would be a good fit for United, it is debatable. Manager Erik ten Hag is looking for a new right-back to provide competition for Diogo Dalot but he will be keen to have someone with a similar skillset to the Portuguese star.

Being capable of covering the length of the pitch, as well as being attack-minded, are key qualities that ten Hag will be seeking and Pavard doesn’t really possess the required attributes.

The 26-year-old started his career as a centre-half and, while he is by no means poor in the final third of the pitch, he is much more comfortable as a defender than as a winger.
