Manchester United have opted against making a summer bid for Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez after refusing to pay the Argentinian forward’s £94m release clause, according to the Times.
The Red Devils are continuing their search for a new number nine, but it appears that they won’t be signing the 22-year-old at the end of the season. Many fans on Twitter are calling on the club to pay the fee:
100% worth it in today’s market. We should honestly pay it if we can’t get Werner in summer!

please just pay it, if Joao Felix is £100m+ this guy is absolutely worth it. Perfect for the Premier League and is far better than Martial.

Other supporters are not so sure that United would get value for money if they met the asking price for Martinez:
Just go for timo werner now have a deal sorted for the summer it's not rocket science

It would be the modern United in a nutshell to buy a striker who’s excelling in a two-man system and then play him as a lone striker.

Timo Werner please!

The Argentinian international has certainly been in decent form for Inter this campaign, scoring 16 goals in 27 appearances for the Italian club. However, he plays as part of a two-man strikeforce in Antonio Conte’s 3-5-2 formation, alongside Romelu Lukaku.
Whether Martinez could take on the burden of being United’s main striker, it is up for debate, and there are certainly cheaper options out there on the market.
