World Class Defender Set For United?

Manchester United could be set to make a move for Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi. This comes after his agent revealed that the Argentina defender wants out of the Spanish club.

Otamendi has been linked with United for some time, a new centre back is a much needed addition in the summer and although many names have been touted for a move, Otamendi seems like the most likely to make a move.

News circulating Spain now states that Eugenio Lopez, Otamendi’s agent, says the centre-back wants to leave Valencia.

Lopez said: “Nico wants to leave Valencia and is going to do everything possible to achieve it.”
“Nicolas told [executive president] Amadeo Salvo to his face two months ago, it surprises me that it is said that [sporting director] Rufete knew nothing. Or he lied or there is a lack of communication.”
Manchester United are expected to be extremely busy in the summer, and a bid for Otamendi is more than likely. The Argentine has been brilliant for Valencia this season, ensuring their place in the top 4 of La Liga with his solid defensive performances. He has also proved to be quite versatile, chipping in with 6 goals for the side too.

Otamendi moved to Valencia from Porto just last season for around €12 million. His release clause at Valencia is now €50 million (£36m) a figure United would surely try to decrease, with the player seemingly wanting out.
