United To Announce Signing This Weekend

Manchester United could be set to announce the signing of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan as early as this weekend. United have been huge favourites to sign the £20 million man since April, after Dortmund’s chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke revealed the midfielder will not be at the club next season.

He said: “Gundogan will be leaving  this summer, that is a fact. I am very confident we will see various clubs coming in for him.

“It has not been our intention to see him leaving. It was his ambition to move clubs (this summer). Therefore we agreed. We will sell him.”

Barcelona are said to be one of the major threats to United’s bid to sign Gundogan, however due to their transfer embargo which lasts throughout 2015, it is unlikely they will tempt Dortmund or indeed Gundogan to wait until January 2016 for the deal.

Despite struggling with injuries over the last year, which saw him agonisingly miss out on last summers World Cup, where his country Germany walked away victorious. His return to football has shown he still has very much to offer, and at the tender age of 24, some might say he still has his best yet to come. Gundogan has made over 30 appearances for Dortmund this season, which shows his past injury troubles may well be behind him.

According to The Express, a deal has been completed for the Borussia Dortmund midfielder who has been in talks for the past two weeks. The news of his transfer to United could be announced after the German cup final between Dortmund and Wolfsburg.

It would be a big signing for United, who are desperate to land a new central midfielder. Gundogan definitely posses the abilities necessary to play for United, and his style of play fits the type of possession-based game Louis van Gaal likes.

Gundogan usually operates in a deep-lying midfield role for Dortmund, but he can also play further forward. Wherever it is he plays, he’d be a valuable addition to the United squad.

Gundogan would be United’s second signing of the transfer window, with Memphis Depay’s arrival also imminent. One thing’s for sure, it’s going to be an exciting summer ahead!
