United Star Set To Leave, Says Teammate

Manchester United winger Memphis Depay looks to be on his way out of Old Trafford after just over a year at the club. The news has been doing the rounds for the past few months and won’t come as much of a surprise as the 22-year-old has appeared for only 20 minutes in the Premier League since the arrival of new manager Jose Mourinho.

Memphis signed for Manchester United from PSV Eindhoven for £25million and came to the club with high hopes. He was given the No.7 shirt to further these expectations – but has all but failed to produce anything that merits him keeping his place at Old Trafford.

Despite the Dutchman scroring 22 goals in 30 league appearances for PSV in his final season, showing potential in a good World Cup for Netherlands and starting relatively brightly for United in his first season at the club – the Dutchman has failed to show almost any signs that he will become a regular starter for the Reds. Now it seems that the winger is ready to cut his ties with United and join fellow Premier League rivals Everton. It is unknown whether or not this transfer will be as a loan deal or permanent, but manager Ronald Koeman is desperate to make Memphis part of his Everton side in January after losing Bolasie until the end of the season due to injury.

The Everton made it very clear that he is a fan of Memphis, telling FOX Sports Netherlands: “He’s a young player with individual qualities, like aggression and efficiency. I would like him in January. He is a good and interesting player. He has shown that in his early days at Manchester United. But more recently it’s been less. He needs to play more games.”

The Dutch legend later admitted that he previously tried to sign Depay during his time at Southampton.

“I already wanted him at Southampton in 2015, but he picked Manchester United at the time, which was a logical choice.”

On paper, Memphis Depay is a future star and should mature into one of the finest players in the world. According to his Netherlands teammate and one of the best current wingers in the world, Arjen Robben, the United player is certainly capable of showing his potential – but questions if Manchester is the place for him to show it.

“He (Depay) is a very talented player.” said Robben via Goal.

“It’s a pity it didn’t work at Manchester until now. He’s playing very few matches. I’m expecting something to happen next time, maybe he will make a move in the winter break.”
