United Keen On Defender

Manchester United are reportedly lining-up a move for Argentine defender Ezequiel Garay.
The centre back is supposedly fed up with life at current club Zenit, and is actively seeking a move away.

Garay has long been on Manchester United’s radar. The 28-year-old was touted for a move to United for the majority of last summer, before making his move to Zenit. He has previously spent time at Real Madrid before making a move to Benfica, where he established himself as a top class defender. Now at Russian side Zenit, Garay has become increasingly unhappy.

Several sources claim that Garay is ‘desperate’ to leave Russia this summer, and United are among the clubs interested in the Argentine International. It is believed it would cost around €25m (£18.5m) to persuade Zenit to part ways with the defender.

It is highly likely that Louis van Gaal and Manchester United will have another busy summer ahead. It is also widely anticipated that the defence will be bolstered in an attempt to rebuild the squad into a title winning side.

There have been many defenders linked with a move to United in recent times, the likes of Otamendi, Varane and Laporte have all seen their names thrown around the media. Whether Garay is the man to step in remains to be seen, but it is almost certain LvG will introduce a fresh face to the defence. €25m is a rather modest fee, and the player is proven at the highest level, but would Garay’s presence be better suited than that of Matts Hummels, who is another name massively linked with Old Trafford.

Although it is too early to say whether Zenit or indeed Garay would negotiate with United, the move shouldn’t be totally ruled out.
