United and Arsenal Target Signs New Deal

Manchester United and Arsenal target Ilkay Gundogan has signed a new 2-year-deal at Borussia Dortmund. The midfielder, who originally wanted to leave the club, has apparently snubbed interest from the likes of Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Barcelona.

Gundogan’s new contract with Dortmund will keep him at the club until 2017, the Bundesliga club have confirmed.

The Germany international announced in April that he would not sign a new contract with Dortmund, and it was widely reported that the club were willing to sell the player in order to avoid losing him for nothing in 2016. Sides such as United and Arsenal had both expressed an interest in the midfielder, but now it seems the player has rejected both clubs in favour of a stay.

The 24-year-old had this to say on his new deal:

“I am glad that we finally have clarity [on my future] and I can continue playing for Borussia Dortmund. I am now fully focused on preparations for the new season.” Gundogan told the club’s official website.

Sporting director Michael Zorc added:

“We are pleased that Ilkay will continue to play for Borussia Dortmund. I am convinced that he will help BVB achieve our sporting objectives.”
