Manchester United vs Feyenoord – Predicted XI

Manchester United face Feyenoord at Old Trafford this evening knowing that nothing less than a win is acceptable. The Red’s need 4 points from their next two games in order to secure qualification into the next round of the Europa League, but both their games are must-wins if they are to top their group.

Feyenoord beat United in the reverse fixture in September, a game which sort of sparked a bad run of form for Mourinho’s side. However, despite results still not necessarily going Mourinho’s way, the squad is definitely starting to come together. Injuries have hit the squad lately, but it’s not all doom and gloom – as Mkhitaryan is finally expected to play a part for United.

Jose Mourinho has ignored the Armenian international since his poor performance against Manchester City – limiting the winger to just one substitute appearance. However, the manager this week confirmed that the £26m summer signing from Borussia Dortmund will be involved against Feyenoord.

“I told him today that he is going to be involved in the game against Feyenoord,” Mourinho said about Mkhitaryan. “He is trying. Obviously he is not happy but he is transforming his frustration in a good way, which is to close the mouth, work hard and try to adapt. I told him ‘this [against Arsenal] was not the game for you’ because I don’t think he needs 10 or 20 minutes from the bench. I said ‘I think you need a good game and you need to either start or, if not, to come for the second half’. He needs less pressure and better conditions for him to express his qualities.”

Mourinho also said that he is pleased with how his team are playing but wants the results to reflect the performances.

“The results are not good enough, especially compared with how the team is playing. We need four points to qualify – there is no space for a defeat.

“Playing well, the future can be bright. The team is happy with the direction where we are going in terms of the structure, dynamic and principles of our football.”
