Louis van Gaal is reportedly weighing up a move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

Borussia Dortmund are said to be listening to offers for the midfielder, however they are not willing to let him go without a fight.

Dortmund’s season has been hugely poor in comparison to previous years. Although their recent form has been fairly solid, prior to 2015 it looked as if the German side could find themselves in a relegation scrap, which is remarkable after being Champions League finalists only a matter of years before. Their poor form has undoubtedly unsettled their big stars, who may look for a move away from the former Bundesliga champions. The likes of Reus, Hummels and Gundogan are the big names rumoured with moves away, however with Hummels speaking publicly about his future already, it is surely only a matter of time before others follow.

Gundogan has been one of Borussia Dortmund’s vital players in recent times, despite his injury problems. In 2015 he has started 9 of their 10 Bundesliga games and given inspiring performances which have allowed Dortmund to climb the table. The German club certainly wouldn’t want to get rid of Gundogan if they could avoid it.

Gundogan’s contract runs out next summer and it is widely reported that he is unwilling to negotiate another deal. With this in mind, allowing the player to leave the club and cashing in is surely the only option for Dortmund, who have have been highly linked with 18 year old Belgian Youri Tielemans, who could potentially be Gundogan’s replacement.

The fee quoted for Gundogan is £15 million, according to The Daily Mail, a fee United certainly wouldn’t be deterred by should the player be interested in a move.

One thing’s for sure, Ilkay Gundogan would certainly be a signing to shout about. The 24 year-old has already raised eyebrows with his performances for Dortmund and Germany, could United be his next destination?
