Man Utd vs FC Midtylland – Match Preview And Predicted Line-Up

Manchester United face Denmark’s FC Midtjylland at home on Thursday night, desperately hoping to turnaround the 2-1 defeat they suffered last week in Denmark. United have the advantage of an away goal so if they can win by 1-0 then they would advance courtesy of the away goals rule. The team should be coming into the game with their confidence pretty high after their convincing 3-0 win over Shrewsbury Town FC on Monday night in the FA Cup.

Winning the Europa League remains the best way for United to achieve their goal of qualifying for the Champions League this season. Louis van Gaal will be hoping his side can take advantage of the momentum created by their FA Cup 5th round win and triumph over the Danes at Old Trafford. The Reds should be able to beat Midtjylland at home as the Danish side have lost their last two away games in Europe, have failed to score while conceding six goals and have not managed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last 6 European contests overall.

On the other hand Manchester United have triumphed in 7 of their last 9 games played at Old Trafford while drawing 2 with their last European loss happening way back in March 2013 against Real Madrid when they played Jose Mourinho’s side off the field but were very unlucky to lose as Nani was sent off.

We think that LVG will stick with a winning team and will resist making any changes to the side which won on Monday night. De Gea for sure will not be restored to the line-up as his knee injury is still serious enough to keep him on the sidelines.

Projected Starting Line-up:

Romero, Varela, Borthwick-Jackson, Smalling, Blind, Schneiderlin, Herrera, Memphis, Mata, Martial, Lingard.

Subs: Perreira, McNair, Carrick, Riley, Henderson, Poole

Prediction:  Manchester United 3 – 1 FC Midtjylland
