Everton Interested In Memphis

Memphis Depay joined Manchester United from PSV Eindhoven at the very beginning of the 2015 transfer window. The then United boss Louis van Gaal moved quickly to secure the highly thought of Dutch international as other clubs were very interested in the youngster. Depay was coming off a great season where he won the Eredivise and was the top scorer, banging in 22 goals to lead the Dutch league.

Sadly despite his enormous promise Memphis has been unable to deliver in a United shirt even under fellow countryman van Gaal. This year has seen him make only one appearance under Jose Mourinho and he is beginining to look surplus to United’s needs despite his reported £25 million transfer fee.

After his inability to force his way into the United side under Mourinho the Dutch winger has become a target for Ronald Koeman at Everton. As reported by ESPNFC Koeman had this to say when asked about the young winger:

“I would like to have him.” Koeman told Fox Sports’ “De Tafel van Kees” programme,

“I think he is an interesting player. He has great individual qualities. He just needs to play games.”

“At the start of his time at Manchester United, he showed how good he is.”

Apparently Koeman tried to sign him when he was at Southampton and understood Memphis’ decision to move to Old Trafford saying,

“He chose Manchester United, which was a logical choice.”

So it will be a shame to see such a talent leave United but perhaps he moved to Old Trafford just a bit too soon in his career – only time will tell.
