Carrick Optimistic About New Look United

It is fair to say that after a good start to the season which saw Manchester United win their first 3 games and tied for top spot in the Premier League, the club has stuttered somewhat under Jose Mourinho’s stewardship. The performances by Jose’s men have been for the most part more than decent but the results have disappointed many as the Red-Devils have struggled to make their superiority count on the scoreboard where it matters. While United deserved League wins against Arsenal, Burnley, Stoke City and West Ham to name but 4 matches they have only managed to claim a point in these games as they simply have not been clinical enough in front of goal.

However after this week’s impressive 4-1 hammering of West Ham in the EFL Cup, United seem to be restoring the feel-good factor at Old Trafford as it was the second time in 3 games that they have scored 4 goals after manaaging the feat against Feyenoord in the Europa League last week as well. United stalwart, midfielder Michael Carrick who has been with the club for over 10 years, feels that the club are on the crest of something good as Sky Sports report. Carrick had this to say about the club’s form since Sir Alex Ferguson retired:

“It was never going to happen overnight, I don’t think we were ever going to suddenly move on so quickly – he [Ferguson] had been here so long,” the 35-year-old said ahead of United’s trip to Everton on Sunday.

“But there are certain signs that we are getting there, I can say that. I know we are well away in the league but there are signs that we can feel something is coming. But only time will tell that.”

“All the games have been pretty similar. Even when we haven’t had the results, we feel we should have won all the games that we have drawn, which is hard to take,” Carrick said.

“At the same time, it is hard to get too down because the performances have not just deserved to win the games but to win them quite well.

“There have been occasions in the cups where we have played well and the goals have gone in. It hasn’t quite happened in the league for a number of reasons but if we keep playing like that we will be okay.

“With our performances and the feeling within the game, it doesn’t feel like we have had such a bad start. You are judged on results, that is what the business is, but at the same time you get a feeling and you gauge it on performances as well.

“It is not something where you just flick a switch and everything is all right, you have to build as a team. But there are a lot of positives from individual and team performances and, for the rest of the season, I think we will be all right.”

So it has to be reassuring to hear a player who has won so many honours with United saying that he feels the side is getting into a good groove again after appointing their 3rd permanent manager in the past 3 seasons. Carrick knows what it takes to win the Premier League and claim other trophies so fans should be starting to feel like the club’s fine early season form is set to return for good in the very near future.
