Can Manchester United Finish In The Top 4?

It`s been a tough season for Manchester United who struggled a lot back in December. At the beginning of 2016 all seemed lost but fortunately LVG ignored criticism and focused on his job. With nine games left of the season, the Devils have a big chance of making a top 4 finish. With some luck they could even end up third. How is that possible? Simple maths. If Man. United win all their last 9 games which is a big ask considering the games include Man City, Everton, Spurs and Leicester City – it will give them a maximum of 74 points. The team which is now in front is West Ham. They have the same number of games left with one small catch: one of the games is against United. If LVG delivers a win, who knows where United will finish as it will be the last game of the season. Man City and Arsenal who are now 4 and 5 points in front can be caught. The two will face each other at some point which means the distance from at least one will shorten. Then there’s the fact that City will also be facing Chelsea and Southampton which are very hard to defeat.

If everything lines up, Manchester could snatch a top 4 spot which will take them to next year’s Champions League. Unfortunately, the Europa League looks like a lost cause after the harsh loss against Liverpool. If LVG manages to focus all the energy left for this season in the last 9 games and win almost all of them, surely few will criticize the way the team behaved. It`s still a squad that needs to grow so being in the top 4 is definitely something.

Let`s take a look at what can happen until the end of the season:

Manchester United:

vs Crystal Palace – United should have this in the bag as Crystal Palace is almost safe from relegation but has no actual target to achieve this season.

vs Manchester City – City will come after a tough game against Dynamo Kiev and will be preparing for the next stage of the Champions League. With the proper line-up LVG could defeat City just as Liverpool, Chelsea, Leicester or Spurs did.

vs Everton – There`s a very big chance that Everton will be focusing on the FA Cup. Currently 12th United might have the upper hand.

vs Tottenham – it is expected that the Spurs drop in form just like they do every year. There’s also the fact that United won their first game of the season against Tottenham so a positive result is definitely achievable.

vs West Ham – this is the big one. United need to win this as West Ham are just 2 points ahead. Hopefully United will also win in the FA Cup tie replay and affect their adversaries’ morale.

vs Leicester City – United ended their away game in a draw and could take advantage of all the pressure that is now on Leicester’s players. They are close to becoming an amazing page in the Premier League history and that might be a lot for a squad that came out of nowhere.

vs Aston Villa, Norwich and Bournemouth – these three should not be a problem. Two are ready to leave the Premier League and Bournemouth should be safe by then. It could be a possible hat-trick of wins for LVG.
