Anthony Martial Suffers Injury Playing For France

On a night of solidarity and togetherness at Wembley following the horrific terrorist attacks in Paris last Friday, England faced France in a friendly international match at Wembley. The match started slowly but did come to life after 15 minutes or so and was played with the usual intensity of such a friendly with England coming out on top 2-0 as the three lions looked a much more threatening outfit than they had against Spain. From a United point of view it was a mixed bag however.

For England, Jesse Lingard had earned his first call-up to the squad but was an unused substitute meanwhile Phil Jones came on for the last few minutes replacing goal-scorer Dele Alli. Wayne Rooney played the whole game, captaining the side and formed a decent partnership with Harry Kane. Rooney had several chances and scored England’s second goal with a sweet volley just at the start of the 2nd half and completed the entire 90 minutes.

For France, Anthony Martial started with manager Didier Deschamps choosing to utilize the youngster in a similar fashion to Louis Van Gaal. Martial played on the left side of the attack and was one of the most lively French players giving the English defence plenty to think about. The game certainly seemd to have more energy when the young star was on the ball and he almost grabbed a goal as it required a superb reflex save from Jack Butland in the England goal to deny him after he was through on goal in the 2nd half. Unfortunately for United, Martial was replaced by Antoine Griezman on 67 minutes by manager Deschamps and the reason for the substitution was not tactical but on account of an ankle injury. Martial was later seen leaving Wembley on crutches as Goal.com reported and when asked about the injury United’s star man suffered, the French boss said, “He was in quite a bit of pain after the match,” as Deschamps continued, “He got a kick in the penalty area. I think it’s just a knock rather than anything else to the top of his foot.” If you think Deschamps got it right with Martial and his injury is minor then why not have a bet on the Reds’ next game and take advantage of these betting offers.

So hopefully, Deschamps is right and the crutches are just precautionary as United simply cannot afford an injury to Anthony Martial – he is just too important even if Wayne Rooney looks to be coming into some kind of form. We will wait to see the results of the scans which Martial will almost certainly be having and we can only hope the player suffers a minor knock and is available for the Saturday lunchtime game against Watford at Vicarage Road in the Premier League.
